Friuli Venezia Giulia

Due to its geographical position and interesting history, the region Friuli Venezia Giulia offers a variety of scenaries and a cultural melting pot that is unique in Europe. The Adriatic Sea, the beaches, the Karst cliffs around Triest, the natural reserves and lagoons in Grado and Marano. In some kilometers the scenary changes completely. You can feel it taking the road through the romantic plains of Friuli, passing by the curves on the colorful Collio hills and arrive on a snowy peak of the Alps in one hour trip.

Gastronomy and Traditions

This plot of different climates and cultures contributed to the wealth of traditions and gastronomy of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Here the Mediterranean meets Mitteleuropa and the Balcan. The former latin culture developed in the roman cities of Aquileia and Cividale (Forum Iulii), merged with Lombard, Slavic, Germanic and Ottoman too, during the Turkish invasion. Triest as the only sea port and Gorizia as holiday destination for rich merchants, both experienced a big economical development under the Habsburg empire.
